Why Kate Middleton is wrong for Prince William. January 19, 2007

One word: Blood.

She’s a commoner. A rich commoner, but it’s still absolutely outrageous.

The Archduchess Maria Laura is single as far as I know. I know it’s not necessarily tempting for a British King-to-be to marry his superior, but just think of the issue the British would gain from it!

I’m still too sick to write anything substantial about this other than to note my extreme outrage at the situation, and to post this photo of William being tongued by a member of Atomic Kitten.

Prince William Attacked!

i mean,i think so.
Royalties and commoners do not mix.and they certainly do not get married

I’m surprised the Windsors don’t have a body of family laws to control who they can marry and such.
And you’d think reblooding the line would be a high priority since William’s partly descended from Diana after all.
If they keep marrying commoners they’ll become commoners. Then we’ll be one step closer to being a republic. And at that point I think I kill myself or lead a coup.

I posted this before and you ignored it, but I think it’s more germaine here… The heir to the position of emperor of France is running for French parliament! He continues to claim to be the rightful dictator of the country (though this is not explicitly part of his platform). (His family is trying to disown him, since running for parliament shows tacit support for republicanism).

Look, I know Napoleon Bonaparte “married in”, but it was under duress. He’s was as common as a cokehead Toronto activist at birth, and he died just as common. The children he had with his Habsburg hostage are controversial. I stand firmly on the side that says they inherit their mother’s titles, but that their father had no titles to bestow.
I can read French, but I refuse to because I hate the Romance languages (too much time as a Latin student to respect the bastardizations), so I don’t know Charles’ background because I refuse to read his site. Judging by his pictures I doubt he’s a general, (the only thing Napoleon Bonaparte had going for him), so I wouldn’t even accept his right to take a position as Dictator.
So taking all that into account you’re expecting me to be excited about a civilian usurper-wannabe, proudly descended from a man who essentially raped an ancestor of mine, who is running in an election of all things, in a country which hasn’t progressed a jot since his faux-illustrious ancestor died?

Well… I guess I sorta am. I mean, it doesn’t sound like there’ll be any elections after he wins one, does it?
(Though I’d still certainly stand by his family as they try to disown him… Which just makes my position so confusing.)

This blog could easily become one about Monarchial politics…

7. brunch monkey - January 21, 2007

Alright. Bourbon pretender v. Bonaparte pretender in an election. Which one would you vote for?

8. degenerateleftist - January 21, 2007

I posted a reply, but it didn’t show up.
My initial reaction is to just answer Bourbon. In these times of republicanism and democracy, the good folks have got to band together, and I’m totally willing to overlook some bad history in this case and make friends with the Bourbons.
But this was a trick question: you asked who I’d vote for! I wouldn’t vote for either, of course!
I’d lend help in the case of a reclamation, but certainly not one that appealed to democracy to do it.
Good try.

The obvious next question is, which branch of the Bourbons? Legitimist or Orleanist? Personally, I’d like to see “Henri VII,” “Louis XX” and Charles Napoleon Bonaparte fight it out in the ring for absolute power (a “royal rumble,” if you will). Also, I support this being turned into a blog about monarchism.

10. degenerateleftist - January 21, 2007

I learned a long time ago to stay out of the Bourbons’ internal squabbles. But I’d have to lean toward whichever camp goes back on their bullshit usurpation of Burgundy.
Also, as much as I might plan for this blog to be a blog about anything in particular, like most bad blogs, it never will.

Britain’s Prince William has broken up with his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton after a romance conducted under the full glare of the media spotlight.

The Sun newspaper broke the surprise news on Saturday and friends of the second in line to the throne confirmed that the tabloid story was correct.

An official spokesman for William, eldest son of the late Princess Diana, said only: “We do not discuss his private life.”

Middleton, the eldest child of middle-class entrepreneurs who had won plaudits for her fashionable dress sense and poise, was widely tipped to be Britain’s next Queen.

She was pursued everywhere by paparazzi photographers — as Diana was.

The Sun said that the couple, who met while studying at St Andrews University in Scotland, had reached “an amicable agreement” to end their relationship.

The young couple — he is 24 and she is 25 — were seen hugging and kissing during a skiing holiday in Switzerland only last month.

The Sun said their relationship had been strained since William graduated from Sandhurst last December at a ceremony attended by Middleton.

A close friend of the couple told the paper: “As far as Kate is concerned, William simply hasn’t been paying her enough attention.

“She is stuck in London while he is living in an officer’s mess. Kate feels hugely frustrated that their relationship just seems to be going backwards at a rate of knots.”

As students, William and Kate shared a house. From there, romance blossomed. She is widely recognized as being the one who persuaded the prince to stay on and complete his studies.

Royalty-obsessed tabloids were always convinced she would one day be Queen Kate. The royal family had very much accepted her in the inner circle of what they call “The Firm.”

Judy Wade, royal correspondent for Hello Magazine, told Reuters: “I am totally shocked. We were all convinced they were going to get married. She and William had so much more in common than Charles and Diana ever did.”

“Maybe she realized the awful burden she would have been under. It’s a life sentence marrying a royal.”

Comparisons with William’s late mother, who died in a Paris car crash in 1997, were inevitable but mostly in Kate’s favor.

Diana was a troubled young aristocrat scarred by her parents’ bitter divorce. Kate is the eldest child of a stable, well-grounded family.

Diana was totally unprepared for the media glare and her husband, heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles, always felt he was rushed into their doomed marriage.

The Mail on Sunday newspaper, seen as the voice of Britain’s right wing middle class, also speculated that the rift was partly blamed on the social status of non-royal Middleton.

“Some friends are even said to make cruel jokes about Kate’s breeding,” the paper said.

“cruel” jokes?
If you don’t got it, you don’t got it.

17. degenerateleftist - April 15, 2007

As the British are known to say.

18. Greg - April 16, 2007

The Daily Star reported “cruel taunts” played a part in the break up. According to the report, Middleton, whose mother worked as an air hostess, was considered far too common for the prince and was targeted in royal circles for her family’s humble beginnings.

According to an “exclusive” in the Daily Mirror, the prince ended the four year relationship over the phone after consulting with his father, Prince Charles, who said it would be unfair to string Middleton along unless marriage was in the cards.

Another “exclusive” in the Sun, the paper that broke the story on Saturday, reported that the couple decided to part ways after a “heart-to-heart” they had on skiing holiday in the Swiss Alps.

The two have been friends for a long time and according to various reports in the media, are said to have parted ways on good terms. They are expected to remain good friends and while Middleton is said to have been offered £5 million ($10 million) to kiss and tell, she is expected to turn down the deal.

[it seems she is stupid as well as common]

Commentators have been speculating on Middleton’s future in the media since the story broke. Many expect she will seek a respite from the public eye and eventually use her celebrity status and good looks to secure a high-profile career in the world of business or fashion.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair chimed in on Sunday when he was a guest on BBC’s “The Politics Show,” calling for the media and the public to give the two breathing room.

“They’re a young couple. We’ve had the announcement. Fine. They should be left alone,” said Blair.

19. Greg - April 16, 2007

Oh God. Is her mother even human?

“The problem was the mother. I don’t think it was Kate. When she met the queen, Carole Middleton said ‘Pleased to meet you’ and asked where the toilet was,” Whitaker told Reuters.

The genteel would normally say “How do you do?” and talk about going to the lavatory. But Mrs Middleton was said to have committed the ultimate faux pas when invited last December to attend William’s graduation ceremony at the elite Sandhurst military academy.

“Nobody could believe it when she chewed gum throughout,” Whitaker said. Britain was long renowned for having one of the world’s most rigid class systems, but the age of deference has now passed and politicians vie with each other to promote the merits of a classless society.

20. Greg - April 16, 2007

Bookmakers quickly joined the great debate. Ladbrokes promptly installed the upper-class socialite Isabella Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe as 6-1 favorite to marry William.

21. degenerateleftist - April 22, 2007

You know the old saying: “If you date swine, don’t be surprised if her mother’s a pig.”
I think it’s best for everyone if we just forget about this nightmare and start shooting commoners who come close to the Prince , who’s eye so unfortunately seems to wander in the muck.
