I got the internet back today after a long, long absence. Maybe that means I’ll start blogging again. For now hough I have to go puke and pass out, as I’m very sick.

In times of boredom, I’m always brought back to Borat.

Often I lurk at night. I get bored, and I can’t sleep these days.
Anyway, I got asked for the millionth time if I “was looking for a girlfriend tonight” a couple nights ago. I’m invariably not, so I’m always left saying no but trying to be polite. “Maybe next time.” “If I was, I’d want it to be you.” “If I had the money.’ So on and so forth.
This time I changed it up and said “oh, i don’t think you could handle it.” My classiest moment. It won me a smile, and offers of discounts and even some hinting at a possible free fling.
I was so proud of myself. If only she’d been offering me guns or something useful.
Franco clarification August 2, 2006

I was just talking to a friend who said “oh yeah, you like Franco.” I responded by saying I hate him. That just left things confused I suppose, since I trash teh Spanish Republican side if the Civil war comes up.
So, as clarification: the Republican side splits easily into three, Republicans (they were like social liberals or social democrats or something), communists, and anarchists. If they won, since all their backing was through the communists, that would have effectively meant the communists would have won. The communists even started fighting the other members of their coalition before the war was over. To make things clear on this point: I will choose anyone but Hitler over communists, and only because I happen to have an especially virulent hatred for the Nazis — I could see a fairly easy case for seeing communists as worse.
If the liberal republicans were had any chance of taking power in the war, that would have been okish. I don’t think to highly of them, but I rank them above the other involved groups. Them winning was an impossibility though, so I don’t really count them when ‘choosing sides’ on the war.
As for the anarchists, I guess them somehow winning would be fine, because a week after they won they would have crumbled and something else would have come along, unless everyone starved in the meantime. Franco’s troops viewed fighting the only symbolically armed anarchists as a vacation however, so they’re not really worth thinking about. (I guess anarchists can continue to be proud of them though, since they did acctually prove that some anarchists are willing to get out of bed for something besides sex and drugs, and are even capable of learning to fire rifles or drive trucks.)
So yes, I’m left celebrating a fascist win in the Spanish Civil war. It feels weird, believe me. I can even make it worse by considering how different the anti-racist falangist fascists worldwide are than the other fascists (including of course the neo-nazis). But I won’t dwell on it. I still don’t like them.
So there it is: I hate Franco but am glad he won, since it was the best that could have come out of that situation.
